Ah, the May half-term. That glorious spell when the kids are off school, the fridge is mysteriously always empty, and every grown-up within earshot is Googling “things to do with children near me” in a mild panic.
If you’re in or around Beverley, though, you’re in luck. The East Riding’s got you covered with a packed nine-day window of fun, stretching from Saturday 24 May right through to Sunday 1 June 2025. And whether your crew is into crafts, climbing walls or creatures great and small, there’s something to tick every box.
Storytime, Stacking and a Splash of Silly at Beverley Library

Start off with something sweet and simple – Elmer Days at Beverley Library invite under 7s to join colourful storytime sessions that celebrate everyone’s favourite patchwork elephant. It’s free, but booking is a must – places fill quickly.
Elsewhere in the library, keep an eye out for Lego Art and Duplo building sessions. While dates and times vary across the East Riding, these creative build-and-play workshops are ideal for kids who like their fun with a side of structure (literally).
Sewerby Hall: From Llamas to Knights
If you’re after something with a bit more outdoor wow-factor, Sewerby Hall and Gardens is your ticket to adventure. This clifftop gem near Bridlington is rolling out the red carpet for families across half-term, with a different activity scheduled every day from 24 May to 1 June.
Highlights? Here’s just a taster:
- Meet the Hoof Stock on 24 & 31 May (say hello to the fluffier residents)
- Rusticus Adventure with knights and round tables on 26 May
- Dr. Dolittle’s Woodland Creatures Theatre on 27 May
- Face painting and magic shows on 28 May (plus a curious zoo activity involving orange fat balls)
- Heroes and Villains on 29 May
- Wildcats and cartoon characters on 1 June
If you’ve got a child aged 8–12 who loves a bit of independence, book them into Sewerby Explorers on 27 May (9:30 am–3:30 pm). It’s £25 for a full day of archery, team games, animal snacks (for the animals, not the kids), and a Rusticus storytelling walk through the woods. It’s drop-off only, so parents – you’re free!
And don’t forget to check out the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition (3 May–13 July) while you’re there. Grown-up worthy culture points with minimal effort.
Jungle Gym Meets Glamping at Williams Den
If your young ones have energy to burn (don’t they always?), Williams Den is unleashing its “Jungle Adventures” daily from 24 May to 1 June, 10 am to 5 pm. Expect a wild mix of challenges, silliness and memory-making that’ll tire them out in the best way.
But here’s the kicker: the bell tents are back. Yes, you can now glamp on-site in proper fairy-lit comfort. The Pitch and Play deal is £355 for a two-night stay and three days of Den entry for a family of four. Just pack your own bedding and snacks – though there’s a pizzeria open on Saturdays for a well-earned slice.
Pools, Paddles and Play at Leisure Centres
Need something weather-proof? The East Riding Leisure Centres are throwing open their doors for a half-term bonanza.
Over in Bridlington, there’s the high-climbing Clip ‘n Climb walls and the wet-and-wild Splash Zone inflatable pool. Other centres across the region will be running sessions for everything from soft play and badminton to aqua fun, junior gym, and crash course swimming lessons.
Prices vary (peak rates apply during half-term), but here’s a quick snapshot:
- Clip ‘n Climb: £9.30 kids / £14 adults (peak), £5.20 / £7.70 (off-peak)
- Splash Zone: under 3s go free
Booking ahead is wise, especially if you fancy keeping your plans dry (in every sense).
Fancy a Bit of Culture? Beverley’s Got That Too
Need a quiet moment that doesn’t involve soft play screams? Head to Beverley Art Gallery to see “David Remfry RA: A Homecoming,” running through to 20 June. For an extra dose of insight, drop in for a lunchtime curator talk on Thursday 29 May at 1 pm – free and refreshingly low-key.
Just around the corner, Champney Treasure House is home to “Living Up Lanes – Stories of the Wold Rangers,” a nostalgic look at rural East Riding life (open from 16 May). There are also Tiny Treasures sessions for the littlest visitors.
And don’t miss Georgian Day at Beverley Guildhall on Friday 30 May (10:30 am–3:00 pm). Expect ruffles, wigs, and the brilliantly pompous Lord and Lady Pompous. It’s all free, and walk-ins are welcome.
Camps for Kids, Peace for Parents
If you need structured childcare – or just a break – check out the holiday clubs running at Longcroft School:
- Ballers Academy Football Camps (27-30 May): £14/day, 9:30 am-1:30 pm, footie-focused fun with optional wraparound care
- Kids Takeover Activity Camps (same dates): £23.50/day, 9:30 am-4:30 pm, with inflatables, NERF battles, dance and Lego. £9.50 for extended hours.
Plenty of room for kids to run riot while you enjoy a coffee in peace.
Wild Walks and Seabird Cruises

If nature’s your thing, head up to RSPB Bempton Cliffs . Late May is peak puffin season, with half a million seabirds putting on a noisy show.
Boat lovers can board a Puffin and Gannet Seabird Cruise from Bridlington Harbour on 25 and 28 May (4 pm–7 pm). Adults: £25, kids: £12.50, and under-2s go free (but must be registered). Booking is essential.
The reserve itself is open all week, with adult tickets at £8 and children’s at £4. RSPB members and under-5s enter free.
Hidden Gems: Woodland Clubs and Straw Celebrities
For a day in the woods, check out Wave & Willow’s Woodland Activity Club at Raywell, running 27–29 May (10 am–2 pm). It’s for kids aged 4+, with nature-based fun and good old-fashioned muddy knees. Booking required.
And finally – because only in Yorkshire could this be a thing – don’t miss the Wetwang Scarecrow Festival, from 29 May to 1 June. Free entry, free parking, and scarecrows dressed as Yorkshire icons. It’s family silliness at its finest, with maps, crafts, refreshments and raffles. Open 10 am–4 pm daily.
Before You Dash Out…
A few practical tips:
- Book early: Lots of events fill fast (especially anything involving animals or inflatables)
- Watch out for closures: Bank Holiday Monday (26 May) sees most libraries and museums closed
- Check for discounts: SURE Saver Card (33% off at most leisure centres) and Passport to Leisure (50% off for eligible families) can save a pretty penny.
That’s Your Half-Term, Sorted
So there you have it – a full week (plus weekends) of activities to keep the family happy, curious, tired, and entertained. Whether you’re glamping under the stars, sailing with puffins, or just getting your face painted at Sewerby, Beverley’s half-term calendar is full of local love and memory-makers.
Just don’t forget the snacks. And your sense of humour.
